Alex’s Blog / 01.09.09
By Matt Burgess • Jan 11th, 2009 • Category: Alex Speaks...What’s totally crazy is that it’s 2009. It’s hardly original, but weren’t we supposed to be reading each other’s minds at this point or something? Instead, we’re still floundering in the dredges of common sense, still waiting for someone to tell us what to do and what our worth is.
Thank you, collectively, for all the wonderful art you’ve all submitted. Amazingly, it’s all really fantastic (was that insidiously insulting?). Thank you. Thank you.
What have I been doing? Writing. I’ve been editing and writing a ton of stories and songs. I need to get my recorder thing fixed though. Does anyone know of a cheap, all-in-one recorder thingy where I can just press a button and record a song? I used to have this great setup in my apartment in Brooklyn but some of it broke and some of it got lost–the casualties of vagabondism. Can I use Garage Band on a PC? Any suggestions would be welcome.
There are some truly exciting things happening with this new record. I feel really great about it for so many reasons, all of which you will find out about soon enough. Check out the relaunch of thedamnwells.com in the meantime! It’s still in the works, but we’re getting there. It’s far better than what we had previously (thank you Matt Burgess).
Favorite song of the week: “Ride the Break,” by Ari Hest.
Favorite story of the week: “The Screenwriter,” by Charles D’Ambrosio.
Most freely consumed beverage this week: Red wine.
Most contemplated sentence: “I looked for the beauty I had mythologized and found only its effigy.”

Recorders: Zoom H2, Zoom H4, Boss BR600 in order of increasing fiddly-ness
Hey Alex,
I second Scott’s comment above about the Boss BR600 too… I used to use the BR1600 a while back, loved the thing, but it was probably a bit of overkill. Then I tried out the BR600 a couple of times… thing does exactly what is advertised!
