By Matt Burgess • Feb 2nd, 2009 • Category: Alex Speaks...What I really want to do is finish Poseidon on Netflix, but I can’t because I’ve got Dostoevsky’s unnamed protagonist from Notes from Underground running around in my head making no sense. What an asshole.
Everything has a date. Birthdays. Anniversaries. Christmas. Ramadan. And when that date lingers in the forefront of your conscious mind, it starts to take on the proportions of a giant, plodding through all the days before it, never coming quickly enough. This new record is coming out February 10, 2009, but I can’t really say anything about it just yet, but I can’t say anything at all. I’m too excited. Really. I’m spooked with anticipation. It is a specter in my house, a stentorian hush.
What I can tell you is that we have a winner from the cover art “contest.” Beth Laderberg of Columbia, South Carolina is responsible for the firecracker image that has made its way into the background of our website and Myspace. Thank you to Beth, a fantastic artists, for lending her singular vision to this project. Please check out some of her other work at her website, www.bethberg.etsy.com. I would also like to give special thanks to all the people who submitted material. Everything I saw was really incredible. Really. Truly. Thank you all so much. Fuckin’ A.
Please check back here in a day. As of 12 am, February 3, 2009, the cat is out of the bag. How and where you can get this new record will be announced. It’s gonna be awesome.
By the way, Angela, my dear wife, will be turning 30 on February 3, 2009 (she gave me permission to divulge her age), so please wish her a happy birthday. She’s in the band, dude.
Oh. And we’ve posted a few more shows for this summer. Peep it.
The amazing band Slow Runner will be opening and backing us up at the Mercury Lounge on April 4. That’s gonna be a great one. Just saying. http://www.slowrunnermusic.com/
Finally, today is groundhog day, and if you watch the movie starring Bill Murray, my wife plays the girl who gets kicked out of the piano lesson. Legend has it, Bill Murray was standing behind the door making fun of Harold Ramis’ homuncular nose before every take.
Matt Burgess is Matthew Burgess, aka Burgo (whichever you prefer, really). A Damnwells fan, he likes listening to music, mangling his guitar, and working towards getting worldwide recognition for his fabulous pastas. He lives in constant fear of being found out.
